“The Thorn Queen” by EFK Lasalles

So remember a while back when I posted this image, this map, and this chapter header?

Well, I’ve got good news! It has been over a year in the making, but now it’s finally up! I’ve been working with an author, EFK Lasalles, who is self-publishing a young adult fantasy novel called The Thorn Queen. I’ve done illustrations for her website, the map, and am doing chapters headers for each chapter as they are released each week, most in black and white, but a few will be in color. Chapter One is up now and you should definitely check it out. It’s a really fun story. I haven’t read all of it, but I’ve really enjoyed what I’ve read so far, and I love getting each new chapter to illustrate. If you know of anyone with kids age 7-12, please let them know about this (though all ages would like it)! It includes a fun interactive portion where readers can send in their thoughts or what they think should happen next in the story.

Here’s the synopsis from the page: “Trespassing in Glendoch’s Above-World is a no-no, as is falling on the sick prince’s head while spying on him from a tree. So when 12-year-old Meylyne manages to commit both of these crimes, she must flee her world or face imprisonment in the shadow-cellars. All she wants is to find a cure for the prince, but she soon discovers that someone is out to thwart her. Now begins an odyssey that pits her wits against ogres, Sphers and talking lions, to name a few. As she and her companions get closer to the cure, it seems all clues lead to the mysterious Thorn Queen. And when Meylyne learns that their fates are intertwined, she understands the sacrifice that she must make to save, not only the prince, but Glendoch itself.”
