I just completed these fun maps for a book that will be published by Oxford University Press in June 2014: The Race for Paradise: An Islamic History of the Crusades by Paul M. Cobb, professor of Islamic and Middle Eastern history at the University of Pennsylvania. Both maps are ink on vellum.
The first map is of the Mediterranean World circa 1050 CE.
This second map based on a well known map by Muhammad al-Idrisi, a geographer and cartographer during the time of the Crusades. Many maps made during this time were upside down, with south at the top! Click Here to see the original map.
